History: Providing mental health services since 1976

The first program began as a response to a grassroots movement of families, clients and service providers.

Since its inception in 1976, Mental Health Resources, Inc. (MHR) has provided a wide range of community mental health services to individuals and families. The first program of Mental Health Resources, Inc., Sharing Life in the Community (SLIC), began as a response to a grassroots movement of families, clients and service providers who were concerned about the closing of Hastings State Hospital and the lack of needed services.

Over the years, MHR has added programs providing case management assertive community treatment, independent living skills training, psychosocial rehabilitation, peer support groups, in-home therapy and supportive housing services.

SLIC was incorporated as a pilot project with legislative appropriation, 20 staff, and Assertive Community Treatment principles to serve clients with severe and persistent mental illness, holistically and in the community
1979
Moved office from old house to office in South St. Paul
1980
County contracts established with Ramsey, Hennepin and Dakota
1985
Recovery model impacts service delivery and FRIENDS Program begins
1987-88
Name change to Mental Health Resources MN
Comprehensive Mental Health Act through legislature Case Management (Rule 74) enacted
1992-93
Consumer movement and hiring consumer staff
1994
Supportive Housing program begins
1995
Purchased Bldg at 2105 M'haha for CSP Drop-in Center and SLIC W
Mental Health Outreach Clinic licensed under Rule 29
1996-98
Housing programs expand to include additional rental subsidies, established services in Ramsey Hill Apartments, and added Stevens Square Apartments targeting individuals who were homeless and had dual disorders of mental illness and chemical dependency

MHR Celebrates its 25th Anniversary!

Three-year Cultural Diversity initiative

New collaboration with Medica/ UBH in starting the Metro Intensive Treatment Team;
Started 4 new ACT Teams;
